A new Google URL Shortener extension is making the rounds on the Internet. This extension has a very simple purpose - to shorten your URL with a brief description and then give it to everyone that clicks it!
This is not something that you would want to do for the reasons that I am going to explain, but Google's search engines are all about giving the search engines what they want. They are always going to look for the shortest and most effective way to present your information, and a URL shortener is a very easy way to accomplish this.
The Google URL Shortener extension gives you the opportunity to shorten any URL by just inserting the URL into the small box below the extension and clicking the "shorten" button. This will shorten your URL to the length that is required by the search engines. This extension will also put in quotes around your URL so that it appears as though it were written by you!
If you are someone who uses your website often for social networking purposes, it is not a good idea to leave your URL very long. This means that you can go onto Facebook and type in the URL, but that does not mean that it will show up on Google, Yahoo, or MSN. People like to have short, unique URLs.
There are some drawbacks to this shortening system however. For one thing, this extension will not work for URLs that contain spaces, commas, or anything else that makes them appear longer.
Another limitation is that you cannot shorten URLs that have very specific keywords. So if you own a web site that sells pet supplies, you can't shorten your URL to pet. Again, this isn't a big deal because you should be able to shorten any URL with enough imagination.
However, for websites that have a very large number of articles, blogs, or anything else that you could type into your URL, you may have to spend quite a bit of time to shorten each URL to the length that the search engines require. If you only have to use one URL to represent your web site, then this won't matter, but if you have hundreds of them, you will have to take care of this problem.
It's important that you make sure that the URLs you're using on the Internet are not too long or too short. The longer your URL is, the more likely you are to lose out on a lot of search engine traffic!
Some of the extension that comes with the Google URL Shortener extension will allow you to choose between several different URL formats that are available. However, you should always use the shortest URL format that Google allows for the URL that you want to shorten.
To see the URL format that Google offers, you can go to the URL builder at the bottom of the Google home page. Once there, you can select the extension that will work for your URL type.
When you do this, click the "Shorten URL" button next to the URL that you would like to shorten and then enter the URL into the small box that appears. Click "Go" and then press the back to get back to the original URL.
If the URL you entered is really long, you will probably need to enter the entire URL to make it short. However, if it's short, it will only take a few minutes to do!
This is one of those things that you can do yourself to shorten any URL, but it may take a while to do it all. You might also find that it takes more time to change your URL if you want to use the Google URL Shortener extension. The other option is to use an external URL shortening service to shorten your URL.
